Flat Dome LED Illuminators FD1 Series

VISIOTRONIX FD1 Series modular flat dome LED illuminator with central camera aperture for machine vision

Modular Flat Dome LED Illuminators with Central Camera Aperture. Highly diffused, shadow-free illumination of reflective and uneven surfaces in an exceptionally thin profile.

  • Semi-transparent diffuser glass: dome effect, flat profile
  • Central aperture for axial camera mounting
  • High-density LED matrix, 50 × 50 mm tiles
  • Integrated MCCD driver, PWM up to 100 kHz
  • HTTM© thermal management for stable output
  • M8 3-pin pigtail connector, reverse-polarity protected
  • 48-hour burn-in test with certificate
  • Semi-Transparent Diffuser Glass: A specialised semi-transparent glass cover heavily diffuses the emitted light, creating a highly effective dome illumination effect while keeping an exceptionally thin, space-saving profile.
  • Central Camera Aperture: Derived from the DC6 architecture, the flat dome includes a dedicated central hole for optical lenses, providing uniform, shadow-free illumination directly along the camera axis.
  • Scalable Modular Architecture: Built on 50 × 50 mm emission tiles, the FD1 scales from 150 × 150 up to 550 × 550 mm, so integrators can match the dome to the object and the working distance.
  • Integrated MCCD Stabilisation: The Multi Constant Current Driver gives every LED the same current, guaranteeing immunity to voltage fluctuations and flicker-free image acquisition.
  • HTTM© Thermal Management: High Transmission Thermal Material conducts heat from the LED board into the anodised aluminium frame, protecting flux and colour stability over tens of thousands of hours.
  • Flexible T-Slot Mounting: Continuous lateral grooves for sliding nuts, with AISI 316 brackets and screw kit supplied, permit rapid installation using standard angular brackets.
  • Certified Reliability: M8 3-pin pigtail connector with threaded locking ring, reverse polarity protection, CE and RoHS compliance and a 48-hour burn-in test with individual certificate.
Technical support to choose the right product

The FD1 Series flat dome illuminators are engineered to provide highly diffused, shadow-free lighting for complex machine vision inspections. Derived from the high-density DC6 series, these units replace the transparent cover with a semi-transparent diffuser glass, replicating the enveloping effect of a traditional dome light while maintaining an exceptionally thin profile suitable for tight industrial spaces.

Constructed using a modular 50 × 50 mm tile architecture, the FD1 Series scales up to 550 × 550 mm. The central camera aperture lets the lens sit perfectly aligned with the diffused light source, eliminating harsh reflections on glossy, specular or curved surfaces, while the built-in MCCD stabilisation and HTTM thermal management keep the optical performance stable over time.

Why choose this family of illuminators?

FD1 series main features
  1. High Density LED Matrix
High density LED matrix with integrated lens, kept regular by a special fixing mask that ensures uniform LED spacing behind the diffuser.
  2. Semi-Transparent Diffuser Glass
The diffuser glass spreads the light to create a dome effect in a flat profile; it can be replaced in case of damage.
  3. Industrial Connector
Threaded M8 connector for easy assembly and quick disconnection for maintenance; the cable is fixed by a flexible cable gland.
  4. Aluminium Casing
Black anodised aluminium casing ensures high heat dissipation from the LEDs and excellent mechanical robustness.
  5. Reverse Polarity Protection
The internal circuits are protected against reverse polarity of the supply voltage.
  6. High-Efficiency LEDs
    Latest-generation high-brightness, low-power LEDs with integrated lens.
  7. HTTM© Technology
A special layer of high thermal transmission material between the LEDs and the housing keeps the LED temperature constant.
  8. MCCD© Internal Driver
The integrated Multi Constant Current Driver stabilises the LED current for improved homogeneity of the emitted light.
  9. 48H Test Certificate
Each illuminator is subjected to a 48-hour test cycle and a test certificate is issued with the product.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the FD1 flat dome and the DC6 ring illuminator?

The two series share the same modular LED matrix, central camera aperture and mechanics. The FD1 replaces the transparent protective glass of the DC6 with a semi-transparent diffuser, which spreads the light and produces the shadow-free, glare-free illumination of a dome light in a flat, thin profile.

When should I use a flat dome instead of a ring light?

Choose the FD1 when the object is reflective, curved or uneven: foils, caps, shiny plastics, machined metal, PCBs. The diffused light eliminates hot spots and harsh shadows that would disturb OCR, code reading and defect detection.

What sizes does the FD1 series cover?

Nine standard models from 150 x 150 mm up to 550 x 550 mm, including rectangular formats such as 250 x 350, 250 x 450, 350 x 450 and 450 x 550 mm. Other dimensions can be supplied on request thanks to the modular 50 x 50 mm architecture.

How is the FD1 controlled and connected?

Each illuminator runs on 24 Vdc with an integrated MCCD driver supporting continuous, ON/OFF and PWM control up to 100 kHz via an external signal from PLC or camera. Connection is through an M8 3-pin pigtail connector; larger formats have 2 to 4 cables that must all be connected.

Which LED colours are available for the FD1?

Standard FD1 models are available in neutral white 5000K and infrared 850 nm. Other wavelengths can be supplied on request for specific contrast requirements.
